Key Issue: Communication on Issues
I have done my best to ensure that everyone who comes to me with a concern receives my time and attention. Sometimes that means helping people connect with the right person. Other times, it means researching an issue so I can advocate for a good solution or listening carefully and helping explain complex issues.
I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone, answering emails, and meeting with people in parks, classrooms, and other community spaces to discuss their concerns. Every person who has reached out to me has received my attention because I believe communication and trust matter.
As board members, we have a responsibility to communicate carefully and accurately. Each board member represents one voice on a seven-member board, so we must be careful not to present individual opinions as official district positions. For this reason, I support strong district communication and advocate for our communications team to provide clear, informative updates for the community.
At the same time, I know we can do better. Recently, we hired an outside consulting firm to evaluate how communication works with all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and community members. I look forward to using those results to help guide meaningful improvements.
If there is a way you would like me to communicate with you, please reach out. I value feedback and would love to hear from you.
